A Word from the Artistic Director

A warm hello to you! It is coming on a year since our big splash of a project, One River Mississippi. I have been busy in this meanwhile, traveling to conferences, leading workshops, planning for and creating new performances, and writing about my work for a book on site-specific dance.  In addition, my site-specific work constituted a large chapter in Katrinka Somdahl-Sands’ published PhD thesis in Geography, stating that my dances at the river have shifted the community’s perception of their place. As the Artistic Director I feel very lucky to be able to continue doing my work, thanks to wonderful patrons.

Our One River Mississippi project is still creating waves. Awards up and down the river continue to appear, and the environmental educational aspects of our project have been carried on in schools north to south. Invitations to teach and create performances, both nationally and internationally, are rolling in. It is as if the big splash of One River Mississippi raised up the renown of Global Site Performance a notch, and in our office on the Mississippi River, we feel this boost in energy.
